A dental implant replaces both the root and the visible part of a missing tooth for a fixed, natural-looking result. At our Los Angeles office, implant care is planned with 3D imaging, and Dr. Tyler Ghadoushi designs the restoration that completes it.
WHAT IS A DENTAL IMPLANT?
Unlike dentures or traditional bridges, which rest on the gums or rely on neighboring teeth, an implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone where a tooth root used to be. Over the following months, bone typically bonds to the post in a process called osseointegration, creating a stable base for a new tooth.
Once the implant has healed, a connector called an abutment and a custom restoration — a crown, bridge or denture — are attached. Because the post sits in the bone like a natural root, it may also help slow the bone loss that often follows tooth loss.
IMPLANT OPTIONS
The right approach depends on how many teeth are missing, where they are, and the health of your gums and jawbone. Explore each option below.
One implant and one crown replace a single missing tooth, leaving the healthy teeth on either side untouched.
Learn More →Individual implants or implant-supported bridges replace several missing teeth — often with fewer implants than teeth.
Learn More →A full arch of fixed teeth supported by four implants, for patients missing most or all teeth in the upper or lower jaw.
Learn More →Removable overdentures that snap onto implants, or fixed designs, give current denture wearers a more secure fit.
Learn More →If the jawbone has thinned after tooth loss, grafting may rebuild enough volume for an implant to anchor securely.
Learn More →In the upper back jaw, a sinus lift adds bone beneath the sinus floor when there isn't enough height for an implant.
Learn More →THE IMPLANT PROCESS
Implant treatment starts with a consultation and a 3D cone beam CT scan, which shows bone height and width, nerve position and sinus location in detail. Along with digital impressions, this helps your dentist decide whether you are a candidate and where each implant should go.
If grafting is needed, it is usually completed first. After the implant is placed under local anesthesia, healing typically takes a few months before the final restoration is attached. Your timeline varies with the number of implants, any grafting, and how your bone heals.
WHY TRUSTED DENTAL FOR IMPLANTS
Our Los Angeles team plans each implant with the finished tooth in mind, so placement, healing and restoration fit together as one treatment plan.
Cone beam CT imaging gives a three-dimensional view of bone volume, nerves and sinuses, helping guide where each implant is placed.
Dr. Tyler Ghadoushi, DDS, focuses on restorative care, including crowns, bridges, implants and dentures — the part of treatment you see and chew with.
If bone has thinned, bone grafting or a sinus lift can be built into your plan so the foundation is ready before implant placement.
We help you understand your PPO benefits and offer financing through CareCredit, Sunbit and Cherry, plus in-house payment plans for qualifying treatment.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Straight answers to common questions from implant patients at our Los Angeles office.
Many adults who are missing teeth are candidates, as long as their gums are healthy and there is enough jawbone to hold an implant — or bone can be rebuilt with grafting. Health conditions, certain medications and smoking can also affect healing. Your dentist will review your medical history and 3D scan before recommending treatment.
With good home care and regular checkups, implants often last many years, and many patients keep them for decades. The crown, bridge or denture attached to the implant is subject to everyday wear and may need repair or replacement over time. Longevity varies by patient, bite forces and oral hygiene.
Your dentist examines your mouth, reviews your health history and takes a 3D cone beam CT scan to assess bone and nearby structures. You'll discuss which implant options fit your situation, whether grafting may be needed, and an estimated timeline and cost. You can ask questions before deciding anything.
Bone loss does not always rule out implants. A bone graft can rebuild the jaw ridge, and a sinus lift can add height in the upper back jaw. Your 3D scan shows whether either procedure may be needed before implant placement.
It mainly depends on how many teeth are missing, where they are, and the condition of your remaining teeth and bone. One missing tooth is usually replaced with a single implant, several teeth with implants or an implant bridge, and a full arch with All-on-4 or an implant-supported denture. Your dentist will explain the pros and cons of each option for your case.
Dr. Tyler Ghadoushi focuses on restorative dentistry, which includes the crowns, bridges and dentures attached to implants. He helps plan treatment around how your new teeth should look, fit and function, then designs the final restoration. He speaks English, Spanish and Farsi.
